Apple has started manufacturing iPhone 14 in India. This is the first time that “Apple” has started producing a new iPhone model in this country, almost at the same time as China.
According to a report from TechCrunch, the India-assembled iPhone 14 series models are expected to go on sale in the country later this year.
Apple said in a statement that it is “delighted to manufacture the iPhone 14 in India ,” just weeks after its launch. Historically, India has been a manufacturing hub for older iPhone models. Production of newer iPhone models never started in the country until a few months after they were introduced globally.
Apple supplier Foxconn has now set up a manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur near Chennai to assemble the iPhone 14. The company also plans to manufacture the iPhone 14 Plus later this year in India.
It is known that India has become a location of interest for Foxconn and Wistron, two major suppliers of Apple. The national government has made many moves to attract domestic production and wants to establish India as the next ” manufacturing hub ” of the world.
According to JP Morgan analysts, ” abundant labor force and low wages ” are some of the key factors that make India a desirable iPhone production location. According to a recent report, Apple is planning to move 25% of total global iPhone production to India by 2025.
